Buttpillow™️ / Patented Ergonomic Seating Cushions
Ergonomic seating solutions that are a cut above the rest.
About The Inventor: Melanie Loomos spent 10 years as a court reporter / stenographer doing mostly criminal jury trials. During jury trials, there were infrequent breaks. Trial motions were argued during lunch, which meant no lunch breaks. Sometimes testimony would be taken from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. with very few chances to stand up. After doing jury trials for a short period of time, she developed hemorrhoids and learned that many court reporters suffer from hemorrhoids and cannot do trial work as a result.
After bringing a doughnut pillow to court, and being mocked by a bunch of lawyers, she made the decision to invent a cushion for hemorrhoid sufferers with a hidden utility. That resulted in the “Cantilever Support System,” Patent No. 6,018,831 issued February 1, 2000.
During R&D, over 100 years of research on ergonomics was discovered and included in Loomos’ second patent for the “Ergonomic Seating Cushion,” Patent No.: 2002/0124318A1* issued in September 2002. See Patent No. US 6,523,202 B2 listing Loomos’ 9/2002 Patent A1*.
The utility of ergonomics for women during pregnancy was added with the help of research done by Darren Salinger, M.D., OB/GYN to the 9/2002 2002/0124318A1* “Ergonomic Seating Cushion” Patent resulting in Patent No. US 6,523,202 B2 issued on February 25, 2003.
Loomos now focuses on helping others relieve and prevent pain and problems while sitting in addition to helping individuals identify and minimize ergonomic risk factors that can lead to the development of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). MSDs are a leading cause of disability.

I am a practicing obstetrician/gynecologist in Miami-Dade, Florida. I grew up in Miami, Florida then went to college at the University of Florida. After college I studied medicine at the University of Miami School of Medicine. During medical school I found out that I enjoyed practicing a wide variety of medicine, helping people with their problems, big and small, medical and surgical. I especially like dealing with the happy side of medicine which makes obstetrics a perfect fit. My interests lead me to the study of obstetrics and gynecology during my residency at The George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
Over the course of the last twenty years, I have worked with my wife, best friend, and inventor, Melanie Loomos about the large number of people with chromic painful conditions such as low back pain, hemorrhoids, and prostatitis. She is a great person to work with because of her passion for helping people, her attention to detail, and her reliance on peer reviewed scientific literature.
Melanie invented and patented the Buttpillow™️ line of ergonomic seating cushions that helps people with these conditions as well as other problems such as tailbone pain, sciatica, pelvic pain, after surgery pain, after childbirth pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, and more.
Melanie asked me to test the Buttpillow™️ on my patients to make sure she was providing the most comfortable sitting surface possible for people with problems made worse by sitting and also provide a device that could prevent sitting related pain and problems. I have tested the Buttpillow™️ for several years. The response from my patients is that it works. The Buttpillow™️ reduces pressure on tender body parts and it also corrects awkward sitting posture that can lead to low back pain, neck and shoulder pain, hemorrhoids, prostatitis, and other posture related problems.
My involvement with Buttpillow™️ lead to further areas of study. I am now studying the incidence of common painful problems like hemorrhoids and low back pain in my patient population. Also being researched is people’s occupations and the amount of time people spend sitting. I am interested in the correlation between sitting, occupation, and pain causing problems like hemorrhoids and low back pain, and other conditions which also can be called ergonomics. Ergonomics can be defined as the science concerned with fitting work to individuals to minimize and prevent risk factors for musculoskeletal disorders and pressure related problems. It is my medical opinion that sitting is directly related to the development and exacerbation of many common problems people in our society face.
I work closely with Melanie to make the Buttpillow™️ as good as it can be. I am also dedicated to finding the best products available to assist people suffering with painful and sometimes embarrassing problems.
