Buttpillow™️ Ergonomic Seat Cushion Featured in Inventors’ Digest
The Buttpillow™️ Ergonomic Seat Cushion featured in the July / August 2002 edition of Inventors’ Digest
The August 2002 article titled “Take a Seat BUTTPILLOWS” featured a photo of model / spokesperson Anka Romensky with several of our faux fur ergonomic seat cushions.
Four cushions were available at that time:
The Buttpillow™️-Ergo, Jr.;
At the time of the Inventors Digest article “Take a Seat BUTTPILLOWS,” Loomos (mis-spelled Loomis) held one patent:
Patent Number: 6,018,831 or the “pillow with cantilever supports” which focused mainly on helping individuals with hemorrhoidal and peri-anal pain and problems.
A second patent was pending at that time and was later granted on the Ergonomic Seat Cushion, designed to elevate the peri-anal area for hemorrhoid / prostate pain sufferers as well as position the sitter to minimize ergonomic risk factors for the development of low back pain and other musculoskeletal disorders.
Buttpillow™️ Ergonomic Seat Cushions Reduce Sitting Surface Pressures
Do not sit on a hard seat surface. It causes high localized pressure, resulting in diminished blood flow, numbness, and even pain.
This diminished blood flow can cause a hemorrhoidal flair-up and can lead to a pressure sore.
All of the Buttpillow™️ ergonomic seat cushions reduce sitting surface pressures by using a combination of medium density and soft, convoluted foams.
Buttpillow™️ Ergonomic Seat Cushions Can Minimize Shear Force
There are stresses (friction forces) acting parallel to your seat surface. This force is called shear force.
If you sit for long periods, avoid sitting in a chair that cannot lock into place. The sliding of the skin (shear force) over the butt ones when you tilt the chair, doubles the localized pressure and can lead to a hemorrhoidal flair-up or a pressure sore.
Sitting on a Buttpillow™️-Original Ergonomic Seat Cushion or a Buttpillow™️-Ergo Ergonomic Seat Cushion can help minimize shear stresses.
Studies have found shear force is greatly reduced on a seat surface with a forward inclination.
Buttpillow™️-Original Ergonomic Seat Cushion
Your body weight should be transmitted to the seat surface mainly through your butt. Weight transfer through the thighs should be avoided; it can lead to varicose veins.
A comfort evaluation showed a 5 degree forward inclination and a horizontal seat surface to be preferred by most individuals.
The Buttpillow™️-Original has a gentle 5 degree forward inclination.
Buttpillow™️-Ergo Ergonomic Seat Cushion
Researchers have shown an association between frequent forward bending and low back pain. People with herniated inter-vertebral discs often have a history or occupation involving repetitive forward bending.
If you sit on a flat seat surface, a Buttpillow™️-Ergo, which has an 8 degree forward inclination, can be used to increase the curve of your lumbar (low back) spine and tilt you forward to reduce forward bending minimizing your risk factors for low back pain.
Buttpillow™️-Executive Ergonomic Seat Cushion
To minimize risk factors that lead to back pain and pressure-related problems, such as varicose veins, hemorrhoids and pressure sores, sit only for short periods. Change posture or stand up momentarily at least every two hours.
If you are able to use your backrest and lean back most of the day, you may find a cushion with a rearward slant more comfortable. The Buttpillow™️-Executive ergonomic seat cushion provides a slight 2 degree rearward slant and tilts the sitter into their backrest, which also helps the sitter accomplish the posture recommended by OSHA for sitting workers who are able to use their backrests while working.
The Buttpillow™️ -Executive ergonomic seat cushion is great for use with executive chairs or while seated in a car.
Buttpillow™️-Prego Ergonomic Seat Cushion
We later improved on the Patented Ergonomic Seat Cushion to include a cushion for women during pregnancy called the Buttpillow™️-Prego.
Coming Soon: Big Buttpillow™️ Line of Ergonomic Seat Cushions
Currently we are developing the Big Buttpillow™️ line of ergonomic seating cushions to be used with larger chairs, 20 inches to 22 inches in width.
